‘298 GIRLS, 1,966 WOMEN MISSING FROM MUMBAI’

MUMBAI: Since 2013, 298 minor girls and 1,966 women from the city have gone missing, according to the written reply given by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in the legislativ­e Assembly on Tuesday. Of the 26,708 cases of missing people reported in the five years, 4,758 girls and 19,686 women have been traced.

Responding to questions by MLAS Mangalprab­hat Lodha, Amal Mahadik, Nitesh Rane and others, the state told the lower house that 5,056 girls below 18 years of age were kidnapped in Mumbai in the past five years. The government also informed the House that as per the Supreme Court order in May 2013, missing cases involving minor girls have been registered as kidnapping.

In another written reply, the state informed the lower house that 300 people lost their lives and 1,045 were injured in fire incidents in city and suburbs in six years. The question was raised by Opposition parties legislator­s in the backdrop of the fire at Crystal Tower in Parel in August.

The written reply by the CM stated the inspection by the civic body from 2015 to September 2018 showed that of the 5,804 buildings inspected, 2,942 buildings had faulty fire-fighting system and were issued noticed by the civic body under Maharashtr­a Fire Prevention and Life Measure Act 2006. Of them, 2,924 complied with the fire safety norms, while the remaining face cases.
