MUMBAI: A day after a four-monthold boy died after he was allegedly run over by a tanker at Dr BA Road in Dadar, his mother too succumbed to the grievous injuries sustained in the accident, late on Thursday.

According to the family , not even one person came to their aid or rushed them to hospital, with some even choosing to take photographs. The tanker driver fled the spot, but was later caught by the police, based on witness accounts, and arrested.

According to the police, late on Wednesday, Wasim Guas, 35, who runs a real-estate business and lives in Kurla, was headed to South Mumbai along with his wife, Saba, 28, daughter, Maysha,7, and son, Saad, on a scooter when the accident occurred just after the flyover near Chitra Cinema. “Wasim said an unidentified vehicle hit them from the rear end. Wasim caught hold of his daughter as both of them fell on the left side. Saba and Saad, however, fell on the right side and the rear wheels of the tanker ran over them,” Shamsunnisa, Wasim’s mother, told HT on Friday. The infant died on the spot. “Log maut ka tamasha dekh rahe they (People were witness- ing spectacle of death),” said Shamsunnisa.

“People clicked photographs while my son desperately tried to get a vehicle to take the injured to hospital in time. There were many witnesses, including two policemen, who were mere spectators. Finally, a taxi driver stopped and helped my son take the injured to hospital,” she said.

Meanwhile, the family said the police should check CCTV footage to find the driver of the unidentified vehicle that hit the scooter from behind.
