TRUCK CARRYING CHEMICAL DRUMS TOPPLES IN KALWA

MUMBAI: A truck carrying 20 chemical drums toppled after the driver lost control of the vehicle at Reti Bunder in Kalwa on Sunday. The Reti Bunder road faced congestion for almost an hour. The truck driver Mohammed Parbes, 39, escaped unhurt. The Regional Disaster Managemney Cell (RDMC) officials were alerted soon after the accident. “As there was oil on the road, we had taken precaution­ary measures to ensure no one was injured,” said an official from RDMC.

Versova bridge to be closed for repairs from today

PALGHAR: Motorists from Ahmedabad, Mumbai and other parts of India may face huge traffic snarls as the 48-year-old Versova bridge built over the Bhayander creek on the Mumbaiahme­dabad National highway number 8 will be closed for repairs from Monday. It will be reopened on December 24. A notificati­on to this effect was issued by Palghar district collector Dr Prashant Narnaware on Saturday.

Mega block on all lines leads to overcrowdi­ng

MUMBAI: The Central Railway on Sunday operated its first maintenanc­e block on the fourth railway line corridor in the city. A maintenanc­e block was operated on the recently inaugurate­d Belapurkha­rkopar railway section. The block was operated between Belapur and Kharkopar stations from 11.30am to 4pm. “Railways should take night blocks for extensive works,” said Neha Singh, 26, Borivli resident.

Woman loses baby after husband kicks her

THANE: A 29-year-old pregnant woman lost her baby after her husband allegedly kicked her on her stomach on Friday night after the woman denied giving dowry, said police. The incident took place in Kasarvadav­ali and a case was lodged against the husband Ganesh Save, 31.
