CBI ADDITIONAL CHARGE SHEET IN 1993 BLASTS CASE

NEW DELHI: The CBI has filed a supplement­ary charge sheet in the 1993 Bombay blasts case against key accused Ahmed Kamal Shaikh, who was part of a conspiracy meeting attended by Dawood Ibrahim in Dubai to execute 1993 Bombay blasts in India. Shaikh alias Ahmed Lambu alias Khalid Kamal Shaikh, absconding since 1993 and nabbed on June 1, is in judicial custody. The agency filed the supplement­ary charge sheet against him before the special TADA court. A non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against Shaikh in 1997 followed by a Interpol Red Corner Notice. “The CBI investigat­ion revealed that the said accused was an active member of criminal conspiracy concerning this case...,” CBI spokespers­on Abhishek Dayal said here Tuesday.

CWC nod to Mekedatu dam project, TN flays move

BENGALURU/CHENNAI: The Central Water Commission (CWC) on Tuesday approved the feasibilit­y report of the Karnataka government for the constructi­on of a dam on the Cauvery river at Mekedatu in Ramanagara district. Advocate Mohan Katarki, representi­ng the state in the Supreme Court over the Cauvery water sharing dispute, confirmed the developmen­t and said the state would now have to prepare a Detailed Project Report to submit to the CWC for approval. Tamil Nadu Cmedappadi K Palaniswam­i sent a letter to the PM, pointing out that the Central Water Commission had given its approval without considerin­g its “genuine” objections.

Odishacadr­e former IAS officer joins BJP

BHUBANESWA­R: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha got a shot in the arm on Tuesday with former Odisha-cadre IAS officer Aparajita Sarangi, formally joining the party at the residence of BJP national president Amit Shah in New Delhi. Many senior leaders including Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha BJP president Basant Panda and state in-charge Arun Singh were present. “I have a strong value system... The party’s motto and leader made me choose the BJP which not only assures developmen­t but ensures speed in developmen­t,” said Sarangi.
