FDA CAN FINE CHEMISTS NOW FOR OFFENCES

MUMBAI: The state council has approved the amendment in the Food and Cosmetics Act to allow the Food and Drug Administra­tion (FDA) to fine chemists for various offences in their premises. Girish Bapat, FDA minister, who tabled the bill, said this will act as a deterrent against those chemists who tend to violate rules.

Man gets 7 years in jail for raping 8yearold in 2015

MUMBAI : A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act court on Thursday convicted a man for raping an eight-year-old girl in 2015 and sentenced him to seven years in jail. A fine of ₹25,000 was also imposed on the convict. The court had converted the molestatio­n case into that of rape, based on the survivor’s testimony.

MUMBAI : The Mumbai police investigat­ing arrest of a Romanian national, Carayvan Mariyan, 51, held on November 9 from an ATM kiosk in Vikhroli while trying to fraudulent­ly withdraw money, have stumbled upon the involvemen­t of another Romanian national in the case. The police have launched a probe to trace the second suspect who is around 45 years old, police said.

New toy train between Neral and Matheran

MUMBAI : Central Railway will operate one new toy train service between Neral and Matheran railway stations from December 1. It will be operated on Saturday and Sunday. The train will depart from Neral to Matheran at

Minors held for snatching woman’s bag to buy drugs

MUMBAI : Two 16-year-old boys, who took to crime to fend their drug habits, were caught in a high speed chase when they were fleeing on their bike after snatching a woman’s bag in Malad (West) on Sunday. As per Bangur Nagar police, the incident took place at 1.30am on Sunday near Bangur Nagar in Malad (west). The complainan­t, Alkiya D’souza, 28, was in a rickshaw when the duo pulled her bag. She alerted a patrolling jeep that chased the bikers and nabbed them from Mith chowki. The duo needed money for drugs, police said.
