PUNE TECHIE’S MURDER: STATE TO PAY ₹10L TO KIN IN A WEEK
MUMBAI: The state informed the Bombay high court (HC) on Thursday that it will pay a compensation of ₹10 lakh to the family of Pune-based techie Mohsin Shaikh within a week.
Shaikh was killed on June 2, 2014, allegedly by members of right-wing organisation Hindu Rashtra Sena, following communal clashes in the city.
Assistant government pleader Manish Pabale informed the division bench of chief justice Naresh Patil and justice MS Karnik that the earlier bill for disbursal of the compensation was drawn. However, as no member was found at the address given by Shaikh’s family, the amount could not be paid to them and the bill lapsed.
Pabale was responding to a petition filed by Shaikh’s father, Mohammad Sadiq, who had approached HC in April seeking a ₹30-lakh compensation on the ground that his son, then 29, died an untimely death.
Mohammad Sadiq also complained about the inordinate delay in the disbursal of the compensation under the Central scheme, and sought disbursal of ₹5 lakh as interim compensation.
Pune had witnessed largescale violence on May 31, 2014, following some objectionable posts on a social networking site about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Sambhaji Maharaj and late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray.
In 2014, the three accused in the case had attacked Shaikh with hockey sticks and bats in Hadapsar. He was taken to a hospital, where he died two days later.
