Rlys propose skywalk to ease commuter woes at Jogeshwari

- Aroosa Ahmed

MUMBAI: In a move to reduce passenger hassles on the Western Railway’s (WR) harbour route; the Railways has proposed to construct a skywalk at Jogeshwari railway station.

The skywalk will be constructed on the station’s west side, adjacent to platforms four and five.

The skywalk will have a direct connect to the harbour-line platform at the railway station. The skywalk will also have east-towest connectivity and to other railway platforms.

“There has been a demand from passengers to provide a direct access to platforms on the harbour route. At present the commuters have to alight the local train and then take the foot overbridge connecting to the platforms. The skywalk would provide a direct connect to the stations,” said a senior western railway

official

Earlier, the railways were also looking into the options of constructing a subway, which would have been used by the passengers heading towards the Jogeshwari harbour line platform.

The final decision for the construction of the skywalk will be taken by Union railway minister

Piyush Goyal.

The WR has also proposed to construct two outstation train platforms near Jogeshwari railway station, which would cater to seven outstation trains every day, heading from and to Gujarat. This has been planned to decongest the saturated Bandra station and Mumbai Central Terminus.
