MARATHA QUOTA: HARISH SALVE TO DEFEND STATE

MUMBAI: Eminent lawyer Harish Salve has agreed to represent Maharashtr­a government in the Bombay high court, after its approval of Maratha quota was challenged. He accepted the state’s request during a meeting with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, revenue minister Chandrakan­t Patil and education minister Vinod Tawde on Wednesday. The state recently decided to give 16% reservatio­n to the Maratha community in government jobs and education.

Stone hurled at Rajya Rani Express, loco pilot injured

MUMBAI: An assistant loco pilot who was driving Mumbai to Manmad Rajya Rani Express suffered minor injury on his forehead in a stone throwing incident at Ambivli gate near Titwala-ambivli station on Wednesday. The incident occurred at around 8.30pm. The loco pilot, R P Tiwari, was immediatel­y given first aid. This is the second incident of stone throwing on Rajya Rani Express.

Body of premature baby removed from Thane nullah

THANE: The body of a premature baby was found in a nullah near Yashodhan Nagar, Thane (West), on Wednesday. The baby was spotted by a passer-by after which the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) was alerted. “We removed the baby from the nullah and alerted the police. The baby was shifted to Civil hospital of Thane,” said Santosh Kadam, RDMC, Thane. “It was a premature baby (male), which was declared dead on arrival at the hospital,” a Vartak Nagar police officer said.

Clerk booked for asking ₹8K bribe from policeman

NAVI MUMBAI: The Navi Mumbai ACB booked a clerk from the accounts department of Navi Mumbai police for allegedly demanding ₹8,000 from a policeman. As per police, the complainan­t in the case had submitted a medical bill for reimbursem­ent. Minakshi Khobragode, 37, demanded ₹8,000 from the complainan­t for forwarding the bill to seniors.
