Night block on CR for five days starts today
SOME OF THE LOCALS WILL BE DIVERTED ON THE FAST CORRIDOR BETWEEN BYCULLA AND VIDYAVIHAR STATIONS
MUMBAI: After the night temperature fell by almost 3 degrees Celsius below normal on Monday and Tuesday, the city recorded a marginal increase in minimum temperatures on Wednesday. The suburbs recorded a 2 degrees Celsius rise in the minimum temperature as Santacruz weather station recorded 18.4 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, 0.3 degrees Celsius below normal, against 16 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and 16.8 degrees Celsius on Monday. Colaba recorded 21 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degree Celsius above normal, on Wednesday against 19.8 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
While nights were marginally warmer, the day temperature continued to be less than a degree Celsius below normal. Santacruz and Colaba recorded 30.7 and 30.6 degrees Celsius, 1.7 and 1.6 degrees Celsius below normal. The weather bureau said slight increase in night temperature was owing to changing wind patterns.
Also, humidity levels were higher than previous days as Colaba recorded 74% humidity while 55% was recorded at Santacruz.
“The wind pattern shifted from northerly to northeasterly on early Wednesday morning, allowing temperatures to increase. But these are minor fluctuations and a drop in temperature is expected in the coming days. In interior areas of the state, lower level winds have allowed the temperature drop significantly,” said Bishwambhar Singh, director, Regional Meteorological Centre, India Meteorological Department. Minimum temperatures in Mumbai started lowering since December 8 – 18.4 degrees Celsius followed by 17 degrees Celsius on December 9 and 16.8 degrees Celsius on December 10. Elsewhere in Maharashtra, Nashik recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 9.6 degrees Celsius followed by Jalgaon at 10 degrees Celsius.
Also, pollution levels in the city dipped on Wednesday. The air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 197, falling in the ‘moderate’ category against ‘poor’ AQI on Monday and Tuesday, as per System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR). A clear sky has been predicted for Thursday, with day and night temperatures expected at 30 and 17 degrees Celsius. MUMBAI: The Central Railway (CR) has planned night blocks from Thursday midnight for the next five days to commission the new route relay interlocking (RRI) system that manages signal and track operations between Dadar and Matunga stations. For the next five days, the block will start at 00.50am and end at 5am.
During this period, all Kurla locals will remain cancelled. Also, some locals will be diverted on the fast corridor between Byculla and Vidyavihar stations.
Similarly, some suburban and outstation trains will also remain cancelled, besides diversion of services.
