MODI’S BENGAL RALLY DEFERRED: STATE BJP CHIEF

KOLKATA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled public meeting in Siliguri in north Bengal on December 16 has been postponed, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’S state unit president Dilip Ghosh said on Wednesday. “The rally is not happening for now. We’ll wait for the legal battle with the state government over our rath yatra to end before re-scheduling it,” said Ghosh. However, on December 7, minutes after a Calcutta High Court division bench ruled against the state government over its objection to the 40-day rath yatra, Ghosh had said, “We’ll battle it out with the administra­tion in the court over the yatra, but there is no doubt that the Prime Minister will be addressing the public meeting in Siliguri on December 16.”

Isro all set to launch communicat­ion satellite

BENGALURU: India will launch its latest communicat­ion satellite, GSAT-7A from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikot­a on board the Geosynchro­nous Satellite Launch Vehicle GSLV-F11 on December 19, Indian Space Research Organisati­on (ISRO) said Wednesday. The 2,250 kg GSAT-7A is the 35th Indian Communicat­ion satellite built by ISRO.

Maoist gunned down in Chhattisga­rh encounter

RAIPUR: A Maoist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisga­rh’s Bijapur district on Wednesday, a senior police official said.a cache of improvised explosive devices (IEDS), frequently used by Maoists to target security personnel, was also recovered from the encounter spot, he said.the skirmish took place around 9 am near Tarrem village, located nearly 450 km from the state capital Raipur, Bijapur Superinten­dent of Police Mohit Garg told PTI.
