Training for frisking, congestion reduction

- Faizan Haidar

NEWDELHI: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will receive training in frisking of female passengers without touching them, ways to reduce congestion and waiting time during peak hour in available infrastructure, why more passengers should be checked with explosive trace detector (ETD), from the best experts around the world, said a senior CISF official said.

For the first time Transport Security Administration (TSA) of the United States of America and Department of Transport, UK are coming to India to train CISF staff of Delhi and Mumbai airport.

According to a senior CISF official, following the aviation security seminar organised in October, the CISF had requested US and UK to send trainers so that CISF staff can also be trained at par with those deployed at these airports and they agreed.

“...Senior officers will attend the training so that they can pass on the experience to those deployed at various pints of the airport,” said MA Ganapathy, additional director general (airport) of CISF. According to another official, TSA will hold courses on ‘female screening’ and ‘process improvement and optimisation (checkpoint optimisation) consultation’ at Mumbai and Delhi airports in January.

“The course has been designed by TSA and they have observed how screening of female passengers can be more passengers friendly. Here, our staff relies on touching the body parts instead of trusting the hand held metal detector. There should be no contact with the body ideally and that is what the TSA is going to train us in...,” said the CISF officer.

In the second course, the TSA will focus on the rising traffic in India and how the security can be better without increasing the waiting time for passengers.

The faculty of aviation security wing, department of transport, UK will focus on use of ETD.

CISF has also proposed an aviation security training centre, on the lines of TSA, to test new technologies and training the personnel.
