Stage is set for local artistes at 28 amphitheatres
MUMBAI: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) submitted a list of 28 amphitheatres to the Mumbai Commission for arts, music and culture in order to get more local artistes to use the space.
The BMC is yet to decide on the charges for using these 28 spaces, which together have a seating capacity of 4,260.
The commission had suggested that the open circular or semi-circular amphitheatres be maintained well for local artistes to perform.
Following this, the BMC started keeping these spaces clean and arranged for lights and other amenities.
The open theatres have steps instead of chairs and the width of the steps is wider to provide more leg space for the audience’s comfort. “We are hoping these measures will encourage artistes to come forward and present their talent. In the open playgrounds, singers, musicians and dancers will be able to present their talent,” said Jitendra Pardeshi, garden superintendent.
Pardeshi also said that as of now, the civic body has not decided on the charges, if any, for using the amphitheaters and the work for enrolment, fees and related procedures for municipal administration and commission is underway.
However, organisers will have to seek permission from the civic body’s garden department in case any program is organised.
