MUMBAI: A 21-year-old man died, while his 17-year-old friend is battling for her life, after he crashed his motorcycle into another bike and then a divider at Hill Road in Bandra (West) on Sunday. The two were found to be drunk, said the police. The other biker, 42-year-old Srikrishna Gaikwad, who was on his way to Powai, sustained a leg injury in the accident. According to the Bandra police, Raj Rajesh Waghela, who works for a private company and lives in Bandra (West), was speeding on his bike with the minor girl riding pillion. Around 4.15am, Waghela rammed the bike into Gaikwad, who was taking a U-turn on his bike, near Holy Family Hospital.

Waghela’s bike skid and crashed into the divider. The minor got dragged along with the bike for some distance. Locals and police officers nearby rushed the three persons to Bhabha Hospital.

While Waghela was declared dead on admission owing to head injuries, his friend is battling for her life. A medical test of Waghela and his friend showed they were drunk.

Waghela is survived by his 23-year-old wife and two children. He has been posthumously booked for causing his own death, grievously injuring his friend and injuring another biker under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act.
