THE ACCUSED APPLIED FOR BAIL IN THE LOWER AND BOMBAY HIGH COURT BUT WHEN THE APPLICATIONS WERE REJECTED, HE LEFT THE CITY

MUMBAI: DN Nagar police on Friday arrested a 34-year-old lawyer for allegedly cheating a Bollywood screenwriter of ₹45 lakh.

The accused, Yashuraj Chaddah was evading police for the past six months after his anticipatory bail application was rejected by the sessions court as well as the Bombay high court.

Amrish Shah, the complainant, wanted to start a training program which worked in the use of brain mapping.

“The accused told him that he would get all the paperwork done for it and would also set up a meeting with people who could get him in touch with the defence ministry so that he could give a presentation to Indian Army personnel regarding brain mapping,” said a police officer from DN Nagar police station.

According to police, the complainant discovered that the accused had not fulfilled the registration requirements for which he had taken the money. An officer who was part of the team which investigated the case said that the accused had allegedly introduced Shah to people he falsely claimed had defence ministry connections.

After a first information report (FIR) was registered earlier this year, the accused applied for bail in the lower and high court but the applications were rejected, after which he left the city.

“He went to various parts of the country to give us a slip. He originally hails from Jammu and we were trying to track him for the last six months. We recently received a tip-off that he would be in Goa this week. A team went there and he was arrested from a hotel,” the officer said. “Chaddah was produced in a local court on Saturday after which he was sent to police custody till December 21,” said senior police inspector Parmeshwar Ganame.
