MAN FALLS OFF OVERCROWDED TRAIN, DIES
DOMBIVLI: A 29-year-old man died after falling off a Csmtbound local train near Kopar, on Wednesday. The victim, Vipendra Yadav, who was on his way to work, was in an overcrowded compartment, police said. Passersby saw him lying on the tracks and alerted the GRP. He was taken to a hospital, but declared dead on arrival.

INX media case: I-T dept will quiz Indrani in jail
MUMBAI: Investigators from the I-T department obtained permission to interrogate Indrani Mukerjea, in relation to money laundering in the INX Media case, at Byculla Jail on Thursday. The deputy director of Income tax (investigation) had approached the special CBI court for permission to record Indrani’s statement under Section 131 of Income Tax Act. Mukerjea founded INX Media with ex-husband Peter Mukerjea in 2007. ››P2
OBC panel to miss deadline again after five extensions
NEW DELHI : A panel appointed by the government to detail the sub-categorisation of OBCS is likely to miss the May 31 deadline for submitting its report as the collation of caste-wise population data cannot be done with elections around the corner, people familiar with the matter said. The panel was set up in 2017 to look into an “equitable distribution” of OBC benefits. It has so far been granted five extensions. ››P12
6-ha Versova mangroves to be a protected forest
MUMBAI: After efforts by Yari Road residents in Versova, a six-hectare mangrove forest along Malad creek, which was cleared of encroachments, has been declared a protected forest. Since 2005, mangrove land across 5,469 ha in the city and Navi Mumbai has been notified as reserved forest. In September last year, the HC directed the state to declare the remaining 700ha of mangroves on government land as protected forests. ››P4

Oscars ceremony will go hostless this year
LOS ANGELES: This year’s Oscar ceremony will go ahead without an official host for only the second time in its history, an ABC television executive said on Tuesday. Comedian Kevin Hart in December stepped down from hosting the Oscars after his old homophobic tweets resurfaced. No replacement was announced but there had been no official statements on how the ceremony would proceed. ››P16
