Under tremendous pressure owing to farmers’ agitations and announceme­nts by a few other states, Maharashtr­a announced a loan waiver of ₹34,022 crore covering 89 lakh farmers

The waiver was segmented in three categories covering small and big farmers, and the ones repaying the loans regularly Farmers with a loan of up to

₹1.5 lakh were given waiver for the entire amount, while the ones with more than it were asked to pay the remaining amount of loan under the one-time settlement scheme

The farmers who had been regularly paying their loans were given incentives ranging between

AMOUNT PAID IN THREE CATEGORIES OTS:

₹15,000 and ₹25,000

78 lakh farmers had applied online for the waiver. Over 20 lakh applicatio­ns were either rejected because they did not fit the criteria or were from the categories excluded from the purview

As on February 6, 50.7 lakh applicants have been approved as beneficiar­ies after scrutiny by the tehsil level committees of officials. They are entitled for a waiver of ₹24,239 crore

Only 43.04 lakh farmers have been given ₹18,044 crore.

Most of the remaining beneficiar­ies shortliste­d are from the OTS category.
