MUMBAI: The DB marg police in Girgaum recently detained a 17-year-old Rajasthani resident and arrested his 19-year-old accomplice in the city for stealing two-wheelers. Police have recovered four motorcycles worth ₹3 lakh from them. During interrogation, the duo told officers they had intended to sell 25 stolen bikes in Rajasthan in two months.

Police said the minor would visit the city with the intention of stealing two-wheelers. He befriended Harjiram Purek, an employee of an imitation jewellery shop, to assist him in the crime.

“We recovered four motorcycles, worth around ₹2.50 lakh to 3 lakh, from the accused,” said a police officer.

Vinayak Bhilare, police subinspector, DB Marg police station, said based on technical evidences, police found that the minor would wear red shoes, which helped them nab him. “The minor was caught redhanded while stealing a bike from south Mumbai. He revealed Purek’s name. Their target was to send around 25 bikes to Rajasthan within a month or two,” added Bhilare.

“Purek’s police custody ended on Sunday. The VP Road police will seek his custody now, as one of the cases come under their jurisdiction. The minor has been sent to the observation home,” said a police officer.
