RAJNATH FLAGS OFF LUCKNOW TO NAJAF FLIGHT
LUCKNOW: Union home minister Rajnath Singh Thursday flagged off the inaugural flight from Uttar Pradesh’s capital city to Najaf in Iraq. Speaking on the occasion, he said the government wants remotest areas of the country to have air connectivity. Singh, Lok Sabha MP from Lucknow, added that the UDAN scheme aims at making air travel affordable and widespread. The number of airports has reached 100 in the country and the government wants to facilitate air travel for every person, he added.
K’taka assembly passes budget without discussions
BENGALURU: The Congress-janata Dal (Secular) braved a possible storm in the Budget session after the Appropriation Bill was passed by the Assembly on Thursday, having first put the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party on the back foot with the release of the controversial audio tape. CRPF sub-inspector killed in Gaya IED blast
PATNA: A sub-inspector of the CRPF’S elite COBRA battalion was killed and another jawan injured when a pressure bomb, planted by Maoist guerrillas, went off in Bihar’s Gaya late on Wednesday. An official said the COBRA troops were conducting a search operation in a forest at Pachrukhia area on Gaya-aurangabad border when sub-inspector Roushan Kumar Jha (25) inadvertently stepped on the bomb planted by Maoists. The constable, DK Borah, has sustained minor injuries, he added.
Rajiv killing convict’s mother moves court
CHENNAI: The mother of Nalini Sriharan, one of the convicts in former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case moved a petition before the Madras high court on Thursday, seeking the release of her daughter and son-in-law Murugan, another convict in the case.
