Dombivli college levies excess fees: Students
MUMBAI :A Dombivli college has been accused of charging its students more than the fees prescribed by the University of Mumbai (MU) and Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE).
Students, along with Vidyarthi Bharti, a students’ organisation, filed a complaint with the college authorities, alleging that the college charges excess fees under various heads like mobile application, mark sheets, bonafide certificate, correction in hall ticket and breakage charges. They also claim the students have to pay a penalty for using mobile phones on the college premises.
On Saturday, the students staged a sit-in to protest the ‘excess’ fees. “The authorities are neglecting the issue despite constant follow-up from our side. We have been trying to meet the college management but to no avail,” said Jitesh Patil, a student.
Prabhakar Desai, chairman, Dombivali Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, which runs the college, however, said that he is unaware of the issue.
Desai and the college’s principal both said they were not in Mumbai and did not comment on the issue.
Alongside the inflated fees, students have also complained that the college lacks basic facilities in the gymkhana and library. “The youngsters are being deprived of an opportunity to play sports, even though they are made to pay for it,” said Sakshi Bhoir, state university secretary, Vidyarthi Bharti.
