MUMBAI: The state education department has extended the deadline to register for the Maharashtra State Open School Board until February 28 after getting a good response from the parents.

Till February 15, which was the previous deadline to register, the board received a total of 170 applications through its online link. “We have received a very good response from parents and have thus decided to extend the application deadline. Apart from the online registrations, many parents have also registered at the centres in their respective cities from where we are yet to get data,” said Shakuntala Kale, chairperson of the state board.

On January 10, the education department launched a website http://msbos.mh-ssc.ac.in where parents could register their children to become a part of the board. The board would conduct its examinations for Class 5, 8,10 and 12 once operational.

The first examination for the students would be conducted in June 2019. The department has set up 543 help centres across the state, of which 97 are from the city, where parents can submit their original documents, pay fees and collect the study material. The board will cater to students who have opted out of school due to some reason, those who find it difficult to attend school due to extra-curricular activities and those who are being home-schooled among others.
