AGUSTA ACCUSED MICHEL’S BAIL PLEA REJECTED
NEW DELHI: A Delhi court Saturday dismissed the bail plea of Christian Michel, arrested in connection with an alleged scam in the ₹3,600-crore Agustawestland VVIP chopper deal. Special judge Arvind Kumar rejected Michel’s plea in the cases filed by the CBI and the ED. Michel, extradited from Dubai, was arrested by the ED on December 22 last year.
Sec 144 in Ayodhya in view of proposed march
FAIZABAD : The district administration has clamped prohibitory orders in Ayodhya in view of a proposed march by Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati to the city for laying the foundation stone of a Ram temple. ADM (law and order) PD Gupta said that taking cognisance of the announcement made by some organisations to lay the foundation stone of Ram temple in the disputed area, prohibitory orders under CRPC Section 144 have been issued in Ayodhya.
HP passes bill to make Sanskrit official language
SHIMLA : The Himachal Pradesh Assembly on Saturday passed a Bill to make Sanskrit the second official language of the state. The Himachal Pradesh Official Language Bill, 2019 (Amendment) was introduced by state minister Mahender Singh Thakur in the absence of CM Jai Ram Thakur during the ongoing budget session and was passed without any discussion.
SC verdict on NGT order on Vedanta likely on Monday
NEW DELHI: The SC is likely to give verdict on the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board’s plea against the December 15, 2018 NGT order directing TNPCB to give its consent for restarting operations at Vedanta’s copper smelting plant in Thoothukudi on February 18. The grant of consent by the TNPCB was subject to the satisfaction of certain conditionalities by Vedanta.
11th Annual Int’l Arbitration Conclave organised
NEW DELHI: The 11th Annual International Arbitration Conclave was organised on Saturday by the Nani Palkhivala Arbitration Centre on the theme Arbitration Regime. NPAC director Arvind P Datar said while the Centre took measures to improve country’s credentials as a preferred arbitration destination, more needs to be done.
