Ramandeep back for Azlan Shah
NEWDELHI:SEASONED Rupinder Pal Singh, Ramandeep Singh and SV Sunil have been included in the senior men’s national camp, beginning in Bengaluru from February 18.
While Rupinder was surprisingly left out of the World Cup squad, Sunil and Ramandeep have been out of action with knee injuries. Ramandeep was out for eight months. The two proved their fitness at Senior National Championships.
Hockey India selectors named 34 members for the national camp to prepare for the season’s first tournament, Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia, starting March 23. The one-month long camp ends on March 18.

GAURAV, NIKHAT ADVANCE IN STRANDJA
NEWDELHI: Gaurav Solanki (52kg) advanced to the men’s pre-quarters, while former junior world champion Nikhat Zareen (51kg) made the women’s quarter-finals of the 70th Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Zareen defeated Italy’s Giovanna Marchese in her opening clash, while Solanki got the better of American Abraham Perez. Solanki will be up against Kazakhstan’s Anvar Muzaparov in the last-16 stage. Zareen will square off against Belarus’ Yana Burym in the next round.
Ankush Dahiya (60kg) claimed a split verdict over Azerbaijan’s Sarkhan Aliyev and Macedonian Jasin Ljama awaits him in the round of 16.
KAPUR MISSES MATCH PLAY BERTH
PERTH: Shiv Kapur missed out the match play action at the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 in Perth on Saturday by just one shot as he bogeyed his final hole in the third round.
A superb first nine after starting from the tenth saw him go five-under, but he bogeyed his final hole, the ninth and missed out. He shot four-under 68 for a total of 211 over 54 holes and ended T-26th.
Also missing out was SSP Chawrasia (71) as he finished at three-under 213.
