MIAMI : US President Donald Trump has asked Venezuela’s military to accept opposition leader Juan Guaido’s amnesty offer or stand to “lose everything,” as a crisis deepened over President Nicolas Maduro’s refusal to let in desperatel­y needed humanitari­an aid. Addressing supporters and Venezuelan expatriate­s in Miami on Monday, Trump said the “eyes of the entire world are upon you” today and every day in the future. “You can choose to accept president Guaido’s generous offer of amnesty to live your life in peace. Or you can choose the second path: continuing to support Maduro. If you choose this path, you will find no safe harbour, no easy exit and no way out. You will lose everything.” AGENCIES

Pak out of financial crisis, says Central bank governor

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has come out of the financial crisis with the help of friendly countries and the economy has been set on the right path, the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan Tariq Bajwa has claimed. His remarks coincided with the announceme­nt by Saudi Arabia that it would invest $20 billion in Pakistan under various projects. Bajwa said on Monday that uncertaint­y in the economy had ended, and that the government was capable of meeting all economic challenges.

MONTGOMERY : A small Alabama newspaper is advocating for the resurgence of America’s most feared white supremacis­t terrorist organisati­on, the Ku Klux Klan. An editorial in The Democrat-reporter of Linden, Alabama, begins with the line: “Time for the Ku Klux Klan to night ride again.” It says Democrats and “Democrats in the Republican Party” are plotting to raise taxes in Alabama, so the Klan should raid the “gated communitie­s” where they live. GENEVA : Some 200 families are trapped in a shrinking area of Syria controlled by Islamic State, which is stopping many from fleeing, UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet said on Tuesday, calling for the families’ safe passage.
