Masked man molests 30-yr-old architect in lift of Bandra bldg

MUMBAI:WEARING a mask, a man, who is yet to be identified, molested a 30-year-old architect in the lift of her building in a posh locality in Bandra (West) on Saturday. The police are looking for the accused.

According to Bandra police, the incident took place around 11.15pm, when the woman was returning from a movie. She got into the lift alone, but as it was about to leave, the man blocked it and came inside. While the woman pressed the button for the second floor, the man just stood there. She asked him which floor he wanted to go to, but he did not respond. When she was about to step out of the lift, he caught her neck from behind, assaulted and molested her, said police. He tried to grab her, but the woman screamed and pushed him away, said sources. She tried to pull out his mask, but he overpowered her and fled before she could catch him.

The woman then called her roommates who approached the Bandra police station and lodged an FIR under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty).

The woman told the police the man was bald and aged around 30-35, but she couldn’t see his face clearly because of the mask. The police are making a rough sketch. They have checked the CCTV footage of the area, but are yet to get any lead.

The police suspect he could be a habitual offender or someone known to the woman.

Girish Anavarkar, senior inspector of Bandra police station, said, “We are trying our best to detect the case. All angles are being investigated.”
