RIO DE JANEIRO: Neymar ‘cried for two days’ after injuring his right foot for a second time in January, he told Brazilian television according to an excerpt of an interview broadcast on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old Paris Saintgermain star recognised that damaging the same metatarsal he hurt in February 2018, necessitating an operation, was serious.

“It’s more complicated. The first time I hurt myself I said, ‘I’ll have an operation, it has to be fixed as quickly as possible’. I wasn’t sad,” he told Globo TV. “This time, I took it harder. I cried for two days at home.”

The injury sustained in a French Cup win over Strasbourg on January 23 has sidelined the Brazilian forward for 10 weeks. PSG hope he will be healed enough to get back on the pitch in time for a potential Champions League quarter-final in April.

CAVANI RESUMES TRAINING AFTER INJURY

PARIS: Paris Saint-germain striker Edinson Cavani has resumed training two weeks before the Champions League last-16 second leg against Manchester United, the French champions announced on Tuesday.

The Uruguayan has been out of action since pulling up injured after scoring a penalty against Bordeaux on February 9.

He will not be back in time to play in the rescheduled Ligue 1 game against Montpellier on Wednesday, while Thomas Meunier is also still out injured and Leandro Paredes unavailable having been signed from Zenit St Petersburg after the fixture was originally due to be played on December 8.

SALA’S DEATH SPARKS UNSAVOURY WRANGLE

LONDON:THE tragedy of the plane crash that killed Argentine footballer Emiliano Sala has now entered an ugly aftermath as Premier League club Cardiff City and French side Nantes threaten to go to court over his £15 million transfer fee.

Cardiff have so far refused to pay the first instalment of the club record fee, believed to be £5 million, as they await the results of an Air Accidents Investigations Bureau (AAIB) investiga-

tion into the causes of the crash.

The Telegraph reported on Sunday that Cardiff believe that if the AAIB find that pilot did not hold the necessary licence to carry passengers on a commercial basis, then a negligence claim could be launched against whoever arranged the flight.

That would point the finger at agents Willie and Mark Mckay. Willie has accused Cardiff of “trying to throw me under the bus” in an attempt to avoid paying the transfer fee. Nantes say the Mckays’ work for them ended when Sala’s transfer was completed, therefore absolving them of any responsibility.
