MUMBAI : A Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) jawan was assaulted by four individuals including a railway employee after he stopped one of them from parking his bike illegally near Tilak Nagar railway station on Friday.

Footage of the incident was recorded by a closed circuit television camera (CCTV) installed near the ticketing counter of the station. Police have arrested two persons, Abdul Ansari, 40, a pointsman with the railways, and his younger brother Irfan Ansari, 32, an advocate.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon when Abdul, who lives at the Kurla railway quarters, had come to drop his wife at the station. “He dropped his wife off and was parking his bike near the station premises when the MSF jawan, Shankar Avhad, 40, stopped him,” said Vilas Shinde, senior police inspector, Nehru Nagar police station. “Abdul told him that he was a railway employee and had parked the bike in the area in the past as well.”

The two got into an argument which soon escalated. “Abdul called his brother and some friends to the railway station,” said Shinde.

The footage shows the accused raining blows on Avhad and kicking him. Some passengers, including a woman police officer, are seen attempting to rescue Avhad. The railway police intervened and a case was registered under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). “We are in the process of identifying the other accused involved. The two arrested persons were released on bail,” said Shinde.
