Mumbai seek another positive outing against Uttar Pradesh
MUMBAI: Having steadied the sinking ship to some extent, Mumbai will look to build on their positive outing in their last match, when they take on Uttar Pradesh in their Elite Group B Ranji Trophy encounter at the Wankhede Stadium here from Sunday.
After suffering two crushing back-to-back defeats at home, Mumbai earned three crucial points by virtue of gaining a first innings lead against a solid Tamil Nadu outfit in Chennai. More importantly, Mumbai’s batsmen finally managed to put runs on the board—488 riding on a solid 154 from by Aditya Tare— after failing to get past the 200mark in all the four innings of their twin losses.
Mumbai will, however, continue to miss the services of regular captain Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw, both of whom are currently in New Zealand. Batsman Shreyas Iyer, allrounder Shivam Dube and fast bowler Shardul Thakur are also unavailable for the game as they are with the Indian team for the ODI series against Australia.
In the absence of these experienced players, the burden of responsibility will once again fall on the shoulders of Tare. But youngsters like Bhupen Lalwani and Sarfaraz Khan will also have to stand up, as well as Siddhesh
Lad who has been out of form so far this season.
Uttar Pradesh, on the other hand, have played five games so far and have drawn four.
Aditya Tare (C), Siddhesh Lad, Jay Bista, Aquib Kureshi, Hardik Tamore, Shubham Ranjane, Akash Parkar, Sarfaraz Khan, Shams Mulani, Vinayak Bhoir, Shashank Attarde, Deepak Shetty, Tushar Deshpande, Bhupen Lalwani, Royston Dias
