MUMBAI:MUMBAI crushed Pondicherr­y by an innings and 231 runs to qualify for the semi-finals of the U-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy here on Monday. The hosts produced an all-round show at the Wankhede Stadium to bowl Pondicherr­y out for only 141, after setting a huge total on the third day of their quarter-final clash.

Sarfaraz Khan’s 90 and vital contributi­ons from Tanush Kotian (52) and Minad Manjrekar (41) bolstered Mumbai to a massive 581 in their first innings, in reply to Pondicherr­y’s 209. Mumbai opener Yashasvi Jaiswal top scored with 185.

In their second innings, trailing by 372 runs to make Mumbai bat again, the visitors collapsed against Mumbai bowlers, with Arjun Tendulkar leading the rout taking three for 24 from his 7.4 overs with two maidens.

Manjrekar claimed nine wickets in the match—four for 38 in the second innings after first essay’s five for 41—and Shreyas Gurav chipped in with three wickets as Mumbai piled up further misery on their opponents in a dominating all-round display.

209 & 141 (Manikandan 34; Arjun Tendulkar 3/24, Shreyas Gurav 3/51, Minad Manjrekar 4/38) lost to 581 (Sarfaraz Khan 90, Tanush Kotian 52, Minad Manjrekar 41; Pooviarasa­n M 3/125) by an innings and 231 runs.

Companeroe­s SC and Income Tax won their respective Elite Division contests of the MDFA League here on Monday. While Companeroe­s crushed Bombay Muslims 4-2 at the Neville D’souza Ground, Income Tax defeated Maharashtr­a State Police 4-1 at Cooperage Ground.

In a Super Division clash, Colaba Sports Academy played out a 2-2 draw against Iron Born CFCI.
