PARK GRABS FIRST PRO WIN AT KOREAN GOLF

world’s first big-purse post-coronaviru­s golf tournament wrapped up in South Korea here on Sunday, marked by a ban on spectators and stringent safety measures.

The Korean LPGA Championsh­ip—featuring three of the world’s top ten women players— grabbed global attention. Park Hyun-kyung prevailed, scoring her first win since turning pro in 2018 to claim $180,000 of the $2.5 million purse.

AITA TO NOMINATE ANKITA, SHARAN

Raina and Divij Sharan are set to be nominated for the Arjuna award by the national tennis federation, which plans to send former Davis Cup coach Nandan Bal’s name for the Dhyan Chand honour.

Ankita had won a women’s singles bronze medal at the 2018 edition of the Asian Games and also dished out a strong performanc­e in the Fed Cup. Sharan had won gold medal in the men’s doubles event in Jakarta along with compatriot Rohan Bopanna. He also became India’s top doubles player in October 2019.

MURRAY BETTER THAN DJOKO, SAYS KYRGIOS

Nick Kyrgios told Andy Murray on Saturday the British tennis star was better than world No 1 Novak Djokovic, claiming the Serb “dodges” his serve while the Scot “is on it like a light”.

“I think you should have one of the best careers ever. I think you are better than Djokovic. Djokovic was playing dodgeball on my serve and you were slapping it for a winner. He was trying to dodge it, you were on it like a light.”

STEFANIDI WINS WOMEN’S POLE VAULT

Olympic pole vault champion Katerina Stefanidi beat American Katie Nageotte and Canadian Alysha Newman in a competitio­n carried out on two continents on Saturday.
