A 24-year-old man and his 18-year-old aide have been arrested on Wednesday for murdering a 31-year-old carpenter in Goregaon (East) because the latter had assaulted the former’s girlfriend and her mother.

According to Dindoshi police, the deceased is Arun Sharma while the accused are identified as Kalpesh Kalambe, 24, and his aide as Shahanavaz Khan,18. Kalambe, a labourer, had a criminal record, said police. Around 1am on Tuesday,

Sharma was found dead with two stab wounds on his thigh and chest, below Dindoshi bridge in Goregaon (East). His identity was ascertained based on his mobile phone.

The police learnt that Sharma was in a relationship with a woman for a year. They broke up as the woman’s parents did not want her to marry him, however, Sharma kept pursuing her. A few months back, Kalambe grew close to the woman which Sharma did not like. On Monday, Sharma, in an inebriated state, reached the woman’s house in Goregaon and got into a verbal argument. He assaulted the mother-daughter duo and left. The woman then called Kalambe and told him about the incident.

Kalambe, taking Khan’s help, found Sharma around 11.45pm and got into a fight. In a fit of rage, Kalambe stabbed Sharma twice and fled from the spot. Passing motorists then informed the police.

“We have arrested the two accused and will subject them to a Covid-19 test before seeking their police custody from the court for investigations,” said Sripal Kamble, senior inspector of Dindoshi police station.
