Silverston­e may host season’s first F1 race

Silverston­e circuit in United Kingdom is likely to host season-opening two back-to-back Formula 1 races in the summer.

The entire Formula One season has been ravaged by coronaviru­s pandemic with races so far either being postponed or cancelled altogether.

According to a BBC Sport report, the 14-day compulsory quarantine rule in England is set to exempted for elite sports athletes, opening door for hosting F1 races in the country.

“We welcome the government’s efforts to ensure elite sport can continue to operate and their support for our return to racing,” a F1 spokespers­on was quoted as saying in the report.

“We will maintain a close dialogue with them in the coming weeks as we prepare to start our season in the first week of July.”

AMIT, VIKAS NAMED FOR KHEL RATNA BY BFI

Amit Panghal and the seasoned Vikas Krishan were on Monday nominated for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award by the

Boxing Federation of India (BFI), which picked only Olympicbou­nd names as its nominees for the annual honours. The BFI has nominated Lovlina Borgohain (69kg), Simranjit Kaur (64kg) and Manish Kaushik (63kg) for the Arjuna awards.

YOHANNAN APPOINTED KERALA CRICKET COACH

Former India pacer Tinu Yohannan (41) was on Monday appointed as the coach of Kerala senior mens cricket team. Yohannan will take over the reins from Dav Whatmore of Australia.

The Kerala Cricket Associatio­n took the decision during an online meeting held on Monday.

Motogp became the latest race to be cancelled on Monday in the wake of coronaviru­s pandemic that has wreaked havoc across the world.

The race at the iconic Twin Ring Motegi circuit, which was supposed to be held between October 16-18, joins a long list of races to be officially called off looking at the virus threat.
