Robert Lewandowski netted a second-half winner as holders Bayern Munich remained on course for a domestic double after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 on Wednesday to reach the German Cup final for the third straight year.

Despite a superb first half in which they took the lead through Ivan Perisic, Bayern were made to sweat after losing their rhythm after the break and allowing their opponents to come back into the match with a goal from Danny Da Costa.

“In the first half we should have scored more goals. In the second half we did not do it well,” Bayern coach Hansi Flick said.

ALLI GETS ONE-MATCH BAN FOR COVID POST

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has been given a onematch ban by the Football Association after joking about Covid-19 in a social media video and will miss his side’s first Premier League match after the restart.

Alli posted a Snapchat clip in which he made fun of a man in an airport lounge in February. The video cut to an unsuspecting man of Asian appearance before panning to a bottle of antiseptic hand wash, underneath which appeared the caption: “This virus gunna have to be quicker than that to catch me”.

QATAR WC STADIUM WORKERS UNPAID

Qatari company helping build a 2022 World Cup stadium has been banned from the event’s projects after its labourers went unpaid for months, organisers said on Thursday, in a case Amnesty International said showed inadequate worker welfare standards.

Around 100 employees of a Qatari subcontractor, Qatar Meta Coats (QMC), working on the Al Bayt stadium went up to seven months without pay and continue to be owed unpaid salaries, Amnesty said in a report.

RAYO WIN BIZARRE SECOND HALF GAME

Rayo Vallecano beat Albacete 1-0 on Wednesday as Spanish football returned in bizarre circumstances from its hiatus with the second half of a match that first kicked off six months ago but was suspended due to offensive chanting.

Only 45 minutes were played and Albacete lined up with 10 players as midfielder Eddy Silvestre had been sent off when the first half of the match was staged on December 15.

NOT RETIRING ANY TIME SOON, SAYS CHHETRI

football captain Sunil Chhetri made it clear that retirement plans are not on his mind currently.

“I am enjoying my football and I am not going away any time soon,” Chhetri, who completes 15 years of international career on Friday, said in a live FB chat.

“I told my wife that I am feeling so fit. I am going to challenge Udanta and Ashique Kuruniyan (both India and Bengaluru FC team-mates) for a sprint. Unless a Sahal (Abdul Samad) scores a lot of goals and push me away (from the national team), I am going to be there,” he added.
