HIGH COURT SEEKS INFO ON SION HOSP-LIKE INCIDENTS

The Bombay high court (HC) directed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Ashish Shelar to submit the details of other instances in which the bodies of Covid-19 patients were left unattended in civic and government-run hospitals. Referring to a video of Sion Hospital in which the bodies of Covid-19 victims were lying on beds or floor of the ward where patients were being treated, Shelar’s petition stated that similar scenes were seen at other facilities too. from hospitals to the crematoriu­m are provided with safety gears, and undergo regular thermal screening. Their throat swabs are also taken for tests,” Sakhare submitted.

He also said that the bodies were cremated only in electric crematoriu­ms, with only 20 bodies being permitted at one crematoriu­m per day. Sakhare said that unclaimed bodies are cremated by police station staffers.

After the submission­s, the court noted that it did not need to interfere and said, “All authoritie­s shall continue adhering to the guidelines so that dignity of all citizens is preserved and no citizen is put to any risks.”
