ENGLAND LEAVE OUT MOEEN ALI, BAIRSTOW FOR FIRST TEST

LONDON: Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow were left out of England’s 13-man squad announced on Saturday for next week’s first Test against West Indies, with neither player even among a list of nine reserves.

Off-spinner Ali had made himself available for Test cricket again after taking a break. But although he was included in England’s 30-man training squad, England went with incumbent off-spinner Dom Bess, who impressed during a victorious tour of South Africa.

Bairstow’s fate was effectivel­y sealed when fellow wicketkeep­er Jos Buttler, the current Test gloveman, was named as vice-captain to Ben Stokes.

CA, PLAYERS AGREE ON REVENUE PROJECTION­S Sydney:australia’s top cricketers have reached agreement with Cricket Australia that it should postpone its assessment of future revenue during the uncertaint­y of the pandemic.

The agreement announced on Saturday ended a one-month impasse which followed the national body’s projection in June of an almost 50 per cent drop in revenue in the 2020-2021 financial year. Australia’s leading players are paid on a revenue-sharing model which means the revenue projection eventually might impact salaries for contracted men and women.

AMATEUR CRICKET SET TO RESUME IN ENGLAND LONDON:THE British government said that recreation­al cricket which has been suspended due to the pandemic will be allowed to resume from July 11.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he would set out a timetable next week for when amateur cricket can return as well as the reopening of indoor gyms and swimming pools which were closed due to the lockdown.

ATWAL MAKES CUT, EYES IMPROVEMEN­T DETROIT, MICHIGAN: Arjun Atwal missed a bunch of small putts but still ensured he would be around for the weekend at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Atwal shot three-under 69, including a hole-out from the fairway for an eagle in the second round. He is T-55th at fiveunder 139, which is the cut mark.
