Mandeep 6th hockey player to test positive

NEWDELHI:INDIAN hockey forward Mandeep Singh has tested positive for COVID-19, becoming the sixth national player to contract the dreaded infection, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) said on Monday.

The 25-year-old from Jalandhar is asymptomat­ic and is being treated along with the other five players by doctors in Bengaluru, where the national camp is due to start on August 20 at the SAI centre.

“Mandeep Singh, a member of the Indian Men’s Hockey team, who was given the Covid test (RT PCR) along with 20 other players at the National Camp at SAI’S National Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, has tested COVID positive, but is asymptomat­ic,” the SAI said in a statement.

MORIKAWA CLINCHES FIRST MAJOR

SAN FRANCISCO: Collin Morikawa claimed his first Major championsh­ip on Sunday, delivering a magical eagle on the 16th hole in a bogey-free round of 64 at the 2020 PGA Championsh­ip.

The 23-year-old American, who turned pro just 14 months ago, did the unthinkabl­e by winning in just his second career major appearance. Morikawa, ranked world No. 12, eventually finished at 13-under 267 at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.

SANCHO ‘STAYING’ AT BORUSSIA DORTMUND BERLIN: Jadon Sancho travelled with Borussia Dortmund to their pre-season training camp on Monday, the day the Bundesliga club’s deadline for the England winger’s possible transfer to Manchester United expired with the Germans revealing they have increased his salary.

“We plan with Jadon, he will play for Borussia Dortmund next season. The decision is final,” said sports director Michael Zorc in Bad Ragaz, Switzerlan­d. Zorc also said they have increased the wage of Sancho.

ATLETICO TRAIN AFTER TWO POSITIVE TESTS Madrid:atletico Madrid’s fears of further disruption to their trip to the Champions League ‘Final Eight’ tournament in Lisbon have been eased after the rest of the squad tested negative for Covid-19, following two positives the previous day.

The club’s morning training session was postponed and their plans to travel to Lisbon were put on hold earlier. The statement revealed that the two players to test positive were forward Angel Correa and defender Sime Vrsjalko, who will miss the trip.
