CHENNAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) have decided to allow 50 per cent spectators in the second India-england Test to be held at the MA Chidambaram stadium here, a top TNCA official said on Monday.

The issue was discussed by the TNCA members after fresh Covid-19 guidelines from the government on easing of public movement and entry of spectators into sporting venues were issued. The move was cleared in a meeting between TNCA and BCCI officials.

The official added that there was little time to allow entry of spectators for the opening Test beginning from Friday.

India start with outdoor session post quarantine

CHENNAI: The Indian team on Monday had its first outdoor session since arriving here ahead of the opening Test against England from Friday.

The Virat Kohli-led team, which completed its six-day quarantine period on Monday, will have their net sessions from Tuesday. The full England team is also expected to train for the first time since arriving in the city on Tuesday, according to an ECB spokesperson.

Members of both the teams have returned three negative tests for Covid-19 during their quarantine period.

‘Never questioned Kohli as Test, ODI captain’

MUMBAI: Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has said that Team India has done well under the leadership of Virat Kohli in Tests and ODIS and clarified that he has never questioned Kolhi’s captaincy in that.

“I’ve always had question marks on his T20 captaincy,” said Gambhir on Star Sports’ show Game Plan. “Never had question marks on his 50-over or his Test match captaincy.”

Gambhir also said he doesn’t see England winning any of the four Tests against India.

Won’t ignore reports of player criticism: Langer

SYDNEY: Australia head coach Justin Langer said he cannot ignore reports that some senior cricketers were frustrated with his coaching style and said it was a “wake-up call”.

“I’m not going to ignore this, of course, and absolutely it is a wake-up call. Whenever I finish this coaching career I hope I’m still calling myself a novice coach...i’ll see this criticism as a great gift in a few weeks or months,” Espncricinfo quoted Langer as saying. “My greatest mentors in life are the people who told me the truth and were toughest on me, and I’ve always needed that honest feedback.”
