JAIPUR: A 12-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by three boys, gave birth to a baby boy in a Jodhpur hospital on Sunday night, police said on Monday. The Class 9 student was referred from a nearby town to the city hospital after local doctors complained of complications in her pregnancy. Both the girl and her baby are in healthy condition, they added.

Deputy superintendent of police Rajuram Choudhary said the girl has alleged that she was raped by three seniors (Class 10 students) nine months ago, when she was returning home from school.

Choudhary said police are trying to verify the minor’s statement as most schools were shut in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic when the alleged incident took place. A case has been registered under IPC Section 376 (rape) and relevant sections under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he added.

Rajasthan State Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperson Sangeeta Beniwal said the girl alleged that she was abducted and raped by three to four people, including one of her classmates, in a vehicle.

Beniwal said the girl had even identified one of the accused on Sunday but later retracted her statement.

The minor’s pregnancy came to light after she complained of a stomach ache and her parents took her for a medical check-up.

Meanwhile, the girl’s mother has refused to keep the baby. “We have asked the child welfare committee to look after the mother and child,” she said.
