APEX COUNCIL MEMBERS GET RESOLUTIONS PASSED IN MCA
MUMBAI: Seven of the eight resolutions put forth by the eight Apex Council members of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) were passed unanimously during a special emergent meeting held on Friday.
The resolution that the “secretary violated the constitution of the association” went to voting before being passed by a majority during the meeting chaired by the association president Vijay Patil.
In a memorandum submitted to the president, the council members accused the secretary of “making decisions without holding consultations with or taking approval of the council”.
While secretary Naik didn’t wish to comment on the allegations made against him, it is learnt that during the meeting, he said that “he has done nothing wrong”. Moreover, the president suggested that the matter should be referred to the MCA ombudsman Justice (Retd) Vijaya Tahilramani.
“The president stated that you have nothing to support that the secretary violated the constitution, you have just given that in writing. The resolution is unconstitutional but as they were in majority, they managed to pass it by voting,” said a person close to the secretary.
It was also decided to form a three-member review committee, consisting of vice-president Amol Kale, Ajinkya Naik and Kaushik Godbole, to look into the contracts. While the apex council members had asked for the contracts to be rescinded, it was decided that it would not be possible and hence they would be reviewed. Also, henceforth, all decisions related to contracts would be taken during the council meeting.
“While some may not agree with the radical step we took, we were left with no option. This is all for the smooth functioning of the association,” said a council member.
Other decisions included: all the contracts of selectors, coaches and support staff will be prepared by the treasurer Jagdish Achrekar, routine expenses of the associations to be carried out with the approval of the council and to restore the powers of the CEO with executive secretary CS Naik.
The eight council members who moved the resolution included treasurer Achrekar, former secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar, Nadim Memon, Ajinkya Naik, Gaurav Payyade, Abhay Hadap, Kaushik Godbole and Kiran Powar.
