Rangnick era starts with a victory
MANCHESTER: Ralf Rangnick began his tenure as Manchester United manager with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League thanks to a rare goal from Fred at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Brazilian curled a shot from the edge of the area into the far corner in the 77th minute. Rangnick has already made an imprint on United’s approach, deploying a 4-2-2-2 formation and getting his players to press high and play with urgency.
Late on Saturday, Manchester City beat Watford 3-1 to move to the top of the standings with 35 points. Liverpool are one point behind in second. Chelsea dropped to third.

Real Madrid extend lead to eight points
MADRID: Real Madrid secured a 2-0 win against Real Sociedad on Saturday as they moved eight points clear at the top of La Liga.
With striker Karim Benzema forced off after 17 minutes with a hamstring injury, it was once again Vinicius Jr who stood out by scoring in the 47th minute for his 10th goal of the season. Mourinho’s Roma lose 3-0 to Inter Milan
MILAN: Roma coach Jose Mourinho had a nightmare match against his former team as they lost 3-0 at home to Inter Milan in Serie A on Saturday.
Hakan Çalhanoglu, Edin Džeko, and Denzel Dumfries scored in the first half. It was the first time in Mourinho’s career that his team was 3-0 down at half-time. Inter moved to second, a point behind AC Milan. Napoli dropped to third, two points below Milan, after losing to Atalanta 3-2.

India women’s hockey team beat Thailand 13-0

Blasters record first win of the season
VASCO: Kerala Blasters registered their first win of the season as they beat Odisha FC 2-1 in an Indian Super League (ISL) match at the Tilak Maidan Stadium here on Sunday.
Alvaro Vazquez (62nd minute) and substitute Prasanth Karuthadathkuni (85th) scored second-half goals for Blasters. Nikhil Raj scored for Odisha in the second-half stoppage time.
Blasters rise to sixth in the table with five points. Odisha, meanwhile, stay third with six points from three outings.

Reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen took a big step towards his fifth world title after winning the eighth game when Russian opponent Ian Nepomniachtchi resigned after 46 moves in the face of defeat in Dubai on Sunday.
