MUMBAI: The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai police arrested film producer Parag Sanghvi for allegedly conniving with a developer and duped 15 flat buyers to the tune of ₹10 crore. This is the second time Sanghvi has been arrested by EOW in the last week. He was earlier arrested on December 21 in connection with a ₹13.74 crore fraud case, Mahendra Shah registered a case claiming that his commercial flat in Bandra (West) was given on lease to a company in which Sanghvi was director and they allegedly sold it. Sanghvi was in police custody till December 25 and after he was granted judicial custody, the EOW again approached the court and took his custody in another cheating case, said EOW official.

According to the police, the incident came to light after a complainant, Purshottam Bijlani, had purchased two flats measuring a total of 3200 square feet and had paid Rs. 3.90 crore to the developer before 2018 but had not got possession. Sanghvi was one of the directors in the developer’s company.

The victim registered a case in EOW under the charges of cheating, forgery and Maharashtra Ownership Flats Act (MOFA) against the developer and its directors in the year 2018. The EOW started conducting an investigation and found that Sanghvi was an accomplice of the developer and had been beneficiary in the duped amount of ₹10 crore that was collected from the flat buyers, said EOW official. He was arrested and was produced in court on December 27 and remanded in police custody till December 28.

In September 2021, even the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had conducted raids on the premises of Sanghvi in connection with a bank default case. He was brought to ED’S south Mumbai office at Ballard Estate and was questioned for several hours.
