CBI arrests own clerk for keeping additional notes in Yes Bank case

- Manish K Pathak

MUMBAI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested its own lower division clerk, Sumeet Kumar, attached with the Mumbai anti-corruption branch, for allegedly keeping additional note sheets in the Yes Bank case file.

A CBI official said, “They will produce Sumeet Kumar in court today.” Apart from Sumeet Kumar, the CBI has also named one Mohit Kumar in the FIR who runs a housekeeping company for Indiabulls but has not been arrested yet, the CBI official said.

The additional note sheet kept in the Yes Bank case file reads, “Shri Sameer Gehlout and Smt Bindu Rana Kapoor’s arrest is put up for kind perusal please.” The forgery was revealed after the file went for approval of a DIG rank officer a few days before internal investigation started, said a CBI official.

As per the FIR, when CBI officials inspected the CCTV footage, it was clearly seen that Sumeet Kumar created and wrote frivolous note sheets and also took pictures of them and other note sheet pages of the Yes Bank case file. Sumeet Kumar revealed in the inquiry that the photos of the note sheets were sent to the other accused Mohit Kumar. Sumeet Kumar further revealed that the note sheets were sent to Mohit Kumar to impress upon Indiabulls to extend the housekeeping contract undertaken by them.

Mohit Kumar, through the note sheets, would show his clout in the CBI and also indicate that he could curry favour in the matter of the possible arrest of Sameer Gehlout, the then promoter and managing director of Indiabulls Housing Finance Limited, which is also being investigated by the CBI.
