‘Mumbai police will find the culprits’

- HT Correspondent MINISTER SPEAK

MUMBAI: Minister of state for home Satej Patil said that the Mumbai police have been asked to find the people behind the #Bullibai app that targeted Muslim women last week by posting ‘pictures for auction’. Patil said that the Mumbai cyber cell’s investigation is on the right track and there is a need to nab the ‘masterminds’ behind this to ensure that there are no more such attempts at ‘ideological radicalisation’.

Patil, who initiated the action in the case on Saturday, said that the Mumbai police have taken suo moto cognisance of the attempt and arrested three people.

“It is clear that there is somebody behind this entire drive and the Mumbai police have been directed to find the mastermind behind the conspiracy,” Patil said. “The accused appear to have been driven by attempts at ‘ideological radicalisation’,” Patil said.

Patil said that no action was taken six months ago (by the Delhi police when a similar case in #Sullydeals was registered). “We took suo moto action and nabbed the accused. The entire nexus will be unearthed soon. I was assured by Mumbai police officials that the case will be taken to its logical end. I have directed the police to take such types of cases seriously,” he said.

The minister said that instances of spreading communal hatred and dividing people on the basis of caste and creed are on the rise across the country. “Such attempts are on the rise. The messages spread hatred in the name of religion and caste and create a rift between people of different faiths,” he said.
