Forearm injury ends IPL for Suryakumar

- HT Correspondent

NAVI MUMBAI: Suryakumar Yadav, the in-form Mumbai Indians (MI) batter, has been ruled out of the remainder of this Indian Premier League season due to a forearm injury, the franchise and IPL said in a statement issued prior to MI’S match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday.

“Suryakumar Yadav has sustained a muscle strain on the left fore arm, and has been ruled out for the season. He has been advised rest, in consultation with the BCCI medical team,” MI said in the statement. Yadav sustained the injury during MI’S match against Gujarat Titans on Friday, the league statement added.

Yadav had also missed the five-time champions’ opening two games this season recovering from a thumb injury.

The 31-year-old Mumbaikar wasted little time in getting back to his groove after returning to the side, scoring 303 runs in eight outings, the secondhighest for MI after Tilak Varma. Batting largely at No 4, Yadav had the best average (43.28) and most half-centuries (3). The bottom-paced MI, out of contention for the playoffs, have three matches remaining this season.

Adani Group in UAE T20

After two failed attempts at buying an IPL franchise, leading business conglomerate Adani Group has made its foray into cricket through its sports division Adani Sportline by acquiring a franchise in the Emirates Cricket Board (Ecb)-licensed upcoming T20 league. “We are excited to be part of the UAE T20 league,” Pranav Adani said in a statement. “It provides an excellent platform for enhancing the visibility of cricket as the sport goes increasingly global.”

The financial details were not available. The league, expected to roll out next year, has already announced a stellar line of owners from Reliance Industries Limited (owners of MI), the GMR Group (co-owners of DC), Glazers-owned Lancer Capital and Capri Global. Shah Rukh Khan, co-owner of KKR, is expected to become the sixth franchise owner in the league.

At the IPL team auction last year, Adani’s bid (₹5,100 crore) was the third highest, behind winners LSG (₹7,090 crore) and GT (₹5,625 crore). The Glazers and Capri Global had also bid.
