DUBE OUT WITH INJURY, MUSHEER INCLUDED IN RANJI SQUAD

- Rajesh Pansare

MUMBAI: Musheer Khan was rewarded for his consistent showing throughout the season with a berth in the Mumbai team for the Ranji Trophy knockouts to be held from June 6 in Bengaluru. The top-order batter and left-arm spinner has scored heavily and picked a bucketful of wickets in local tournaments and for Mumbai in under-19 and under-25 tournaments.

All-rounder Shivam Dube, who had a decent outing with the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, and Ajinkya Rahane missed out as both are recovering from injuries. Dube has a shoulder niggle while Rahane suffered a hamstring injury during the IPL.

Mumbai will face Uttarakhand in the quarterfinals on June 6.

Musheer was the skipper of U-19 Mumbai team which reached the final of the Cooch Behar Trophy. He scored 670 runs and took 32 wickets in nine matches. He also played for the Mumbai U-25 and scored 401 runs in three matches including a double century against Manipur on his debut.

“I am very happy to be selected and thank the MCA for giving me chances in the U-19 and U-25 teams and my club, Payyade CC. I owe it to my father (Naushad Khan),” said Musheer.

Tushar Desphande, who was dropped from the team during the league matches, returns to the squad thanks to his brilliant display in the local tournaments especially in the Times Shield where he took multiple fivewicket hauls.
