Former world number one tennis player Serena Williams has indicated that she will return to action during the grasscourt swing in Britain, with one eye on Wimbledon, in an Instagram post on Tuesday. The 23-time Grand Slam champion has not played on the Tour since a first-round exit at Wimbledon last year due to injury. “SW and SW19. It’s a date. 2022 See you there,” Williams, 40, wrote on Instagram, referring to the postcode of the All England Lawn Tennis Club which hosts Wimbledon. She also tagged Eastbourne Internatio­nal, a tune-up event to Wimbledon which gets underway this weekend. Williams was not included on the Wimbledon singles entry list, however, and would need a wildcard to compete. The American, now ranked 1,208 in the world, has won Wimbledon seven times in her career. the Supreme Court for urgent listing of its appeal challengin­g the Jharkhand high court’s decision to proceed with a petition seeking a probe against chief minister Hemant Soren in alleged irregulari­ties in grant of mining lease. The apex court asked the state government to approach the court’s registrar for urgent listing of its appeal. The high court on June 3 accepted the maintainab­ility of two public interest litigation­s (PILS), which sought a probe by central agencies into alleged irregulari­ties in grant of mining leases by Soren and money laundering by shell companies operated by his family members. On Tuesday, Supreme Court directed the state government counsel to approach the court’s registrar for listing the matter, saying there are two vacation benches and the discretion lies with the Chief Justice of India (CJI) to list the matter.
