The next scheduled drive is on Jan 22, and on Jan 28 and 29 after that. The drive will be held two days a week– Thursdays and Fridays. AMIT MOHAN PRASAD, UP additional chief secretary (health)

GHAZIABAD: The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday said that vaccination against the coronavirus (Covid-19) disease will be taken up on two days a week – Thursdays and Fridays –and the next round will be taken up on January 22. Based on these directions, the district administration said they have scheduled vaccination of 11,846 healthcare workers and identified 26 centres, where the beneficiaries will get the shots on January 22, 28 and 29.

District officials said they will continue with routine immunizations -- polio, DPT, diphtheria, tetanus and BCG, among others -- on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

“The next scheduled vaccination is on January 22, and thereafter on January 28 and 29. It has been decided that Covid-vaccination will take place for two days in a week on Thursdays and Fridays,” said Amit Mohan Prasad, Uttar Pradesh’s additional chief secretary (health).

“There have been rumours regarding the vaccine and the vaccination drive. Both the vaccines are safe and effective. We will continue with vaccination of healthcare workers under the first category. Once it is completed, we will move on to the second category of frontline workers,” the additional chief secretary (health) added.

The 26 vaccination centres in Ghaziabad include nine in the government sector and 17 at private healthcare facilities.

“We have listed 11,846 beneficiaries. Although we have a list of about 21,800 healthcare workers overall, we want that the present stock of vaccine available with us should be sufficient for the first as well as the second dose to the selected beneficiaries,” said Ajay Shankar Pandey, district magistrate.

As part of the first batch of vaccine consignment which was received on January 13 in the district, the district received 2,741 vials of Covishield vaccine which make up for 27,410 doses.

As per directions of the centre, each of the beneficiaries is to get two doses in a gap of 28 days.

“So, once the first stock of vaccine is administered to beneficiaries with two doses to each, we will issue the next list of healthcare workers who will get the shots from the second stock of vials we get. Overall, we have 44 centres but have listed 26 at present where arrangements have been made for the upcoming drive,” Pandey added.

The Ghaziabad district officials said that the list of 26 vaccination centres in the district include district hospitals of MMG and Sanjay Nagar, besides the women’s hospital as well as the government health centres at Muradnagar, Dasna, Loni, Modi Nagar and Bhojpur.

The officials added that the list also includes private healthcare facilities of Yashoda Hospital at Nehru Nagar and at Kaushambi, Max Hospital in the Vaishali area, Atlanta and Le Crest hospitals at Vasundhara, at Ganesh Hospital in the Nehru Nagar area and Sarvodaya Hospital at Kavi Nagar, among others.

In the first round of Covid-19 vaccination which was held on January 16, the Ghaziabad district saw a turnout of 94.75%, with 379 of the listed 400 healthcare workers getting the shots.

As part of the Covid-19 vaccination drive infrastructure, the district has one main vaccine store at the MMG District Hospital with 29 cold chain points at government healthcare centres.

They also have 48 ice-lined refrigerators and 79 deep freezers for storage of vaccine, besides 2,540 carriers used for transportation of vaccine from cold chain points to the centres.
