NOIDA: The Phase 3 police on Thursday arrested two more people allegedly involved in a kidney transplant racket. The suspects were identified as Kabir Hussain, 25, an alleged kidney receiver, and his alleged attendant and brother, Saghir Hussain, 28. Both suspects are residents of Jhalokati district in Bangladesh, said officers.

Elamaran G, additional DCP, Noida Central, said that on January 22, the Phase 3 police station had busted a kidney transplant racket and arrested Ahmad Sharif, an alleged donor and a Bangladesh national, and Wajid Haq, an alleged Indian mediator belonging to Siwan in Bihar. Wajid was currently living in Shaheen Bagh in New Delhi. Kabir, Saghir and a Bangladesh national travel agent Abdul Mannan had been absconding in this case.

The ADCP said that the police had received a call allegedly from Sharif on January 18, informing that some people were pressurising him to donate his kidney. “The police and health department formed a team and launched an investigation into the matter. The police conducted a search and arrested Sharif and Wajid. These two suspects had revealed that they were part of the kidney transplant racket,” he said.

Dr Shashi Kumari, additional chief medical officer, Gautam Budh Nagar then filed a complaint against the five suspects and a case was registered against them at Phase 3.

The investigation found that Kabir was allegedly a patient and needed a kidney donor. Police said that Mannan, the travel agent, allegedly convinced Sharif to sell his kidney for Rs 4.5 lakh. “Mannan had made forged documents of Kabir and Sharif and showed them as brother-in-laws. Kabir’s brother Saghir also came to India with the other two in January. The three were received by the Indian mediator Wajid,” Elamaran said.

The patient was given a visa for medical treatment in a private hospital in Delhi but they allegedly came to another hospital in Noida. “Sharif and Wajid were arrested by the police on January 22. Kabir and Saghir were arrested from a guest house in Noida Sector 71 on Thursday. They were produced in court and sent to judicial custody. Mannan is absconding,” said the police.
