GHAZIABAD: The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) on Friday gave a police complaint against two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAS from Ghaziabad, alleging that the MLAS, with the help of their supporters, damaged tents, windows of vehicles and even manhandled farmers at the UP Gate protest site at Ghazipur border.

The police complaint was given by Digambar Singh, who is the Uttar Pradesh state president of the BKU’S youth wing. He alleged that he, along with several farmers, had to stage a protest at the Kaushambi police station on Friday after which the police accepted their complaint.

“The complaint mentions the names of Loni MLA Nand Kishor Gurjar and Sahibabad MLA Sunil Sharma. The complaint was given in connection with the incident on Thursday when they, along with their supporters, damaged property and manhandled farmers. But we showed restraint,” he alleged.

Gyanendra Singh, SP (city 2) confirmed that a complaint was given by BKU members but said he was not privy to the details.

“The complaint mentions names of two MLAS. We are investigating and inquiry is on. But no FIR has been lodged as of now,” said Mahendra Singh, station house officer of Kaushambi police station.

Kalanidhi Naithani, SSP, did not take calls for his response over the complaint.

The allegations initially came from BKU national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait, who during his public address at UP Gate on Thursday evening, had alleged that MLAS of the BJP were allegedly present near the site and allegedly had intended to harm the farmers in case the Ghaziabad police arrests him.

The MLAS, however, completely denied the allegations made in the complaint given by the BKU. “I was not even within 10km distance from the protest site and all allegations are completely false. In case they come out to be true, I will leave politics. The allegations have been made just to evade arrest and wrong doings done by the protesters on Republic Day. In case allegations are false, I will sue them for defamation,” said Nand Kishor Gurjar, BJP MLA, Loni.

Sunil Sharma, the BJP MLA from Sahibabad, also denied all allegations. “Let police probe my presence near the site with the help of electronic surveillance. The UP Gate area has a number of CCTVS. People who went there were protesting against the inconvenience caused to them due to the protest and were also annoyed with protesters after what was done on Republic Day in Delhi,” Sharma added.

Yogendra Yadav, a Swaraj Party leader who has been supporting the protests against the three farm laws, said Friday at UP Gate that farmers will continue their agitation.

“The way Rakesh Tikait has shown the courage to fight has shown the way to farmers across the country. The tears shed by Tikait have given a new impetus to farmers. We were not involved in what happened at Red Fort on Republic Day. The government will not be able to break us. I will appeal to all farmers’ families to come and send at least one member of their family to the protest,” Yadav said. “The conspiracy which had been brewing for the past 72 hours has failed and now it is time to turn the tide. So, people must come out and join the farmers,” he added.

Chandra Mohan, spokesperson and BJP’S UP state secretary, said that some people have engaged in negative politics.

“These people are indulging in negative politics. The BJP has always been instrumental and focused on increasing the income of farmers,” he added.
