Mercury shoots up 5 degrees in Noida, expected to rise further
The city sizzled as mercury rose over five degrees in past 24 hours, with weather analysts expecting the day time temperatures to spike further. The air quality also deteriorated to ‘poor’ from ‘moderate’ categroy even as air pollution monitoring agencies attributed it to forest fires in Uttarakhand and summer crop burning in Haryana.
According to weather experts, mercury rose to around 40 degrees Celsius due to feeble western disturbance, and said it may rise further to 41 degrees Celsius in next two days.
On Monday, IMD recorded a maximum and minimum temperature of 39.7 degrees Celsius and 19.2 degrees Celsius respectively in Noida, against 33.8 degrees Celsius and 20.6 degrees Celsius a day earlier.
At the Safdarjung monitoring station, considered representative of the National Capital Region, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 40.2 degrees Celsius and 16.7 degrees Celsius, respectively. According to the IMD, the maximum temperatures are likely to hover around 41 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday. “There are very less chances of heat wave till April end but the maximum temperatures will remain around 40 degrees. The sudden rise could be attributed to feeble western disturbance supressing the cold winds from north, and low wind speed,” said Mahesh Palawat, vice president, meteorology and climate change, Skymet.
According to CPCB, AQI of Noida on Monday was 248, as against 165 a day earlier, while the AQI in Greater Noida was 269, up from 172 a day earlier.
AQI FELL TO ‘POOR’ FROM ‘MODERATE’ EVEN AS EXPERTS ATTRIBUTED IT TO FOREST FIRES IN UTTARAKHAND AND SUMMER CROP BURNING IN HRY
