Jewar MLA’S letter in poor taste, writes IMA
Reacting to Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh’s letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on May 19 in which he had questioned ethics of private hospitals , Indian Medical Association (IMA) said that the legislator’s words were hurtful.
“We are extremely hurt by the sort of language that has been used against the medical fraternity by MLA Singh. Doctors are working day and night to save people during this pandemic,” wrote Dr NK Sharma, president of IMA Noida, in a letter to the PM and CM on May 20. “I understand that there may be some private hospitals who may have overcharged a patient... we wish that the MLA would have first come to the IMA to discuss the issue,” he added.
To this, MLA Singh said, “The IMA has wrongly interpreted my words thinking that I have maligned doctors. I have raised an issue which the public are facing with respect to private hospitals. In fact, these issues should have been raised by the IMA itself.”
Meanwhile, GB Nagar CMO issued a notice to all private hospitals asking them to clarify the points in the MLA’S letter.
